If you are going to host yourself you need to look at a few basic things first.
You
must have an internet connection that is very fast and with no
(minimal) limits to upload and download. This connection also must have
a set ip address so people can always find you.
You need to have a
computer system capable of running (hosting) your website. This does
not need to be particularly powerful but needs to have the best
networking links you can provide, even multiple network cards. Whether
you have a linux or Windows based operating system will again depend on
what you intend your site to do but you need to have an idea of the
advantages of each for you, either will do for most users.
Selecting
a program to use when building and maintaining the website is able to
be considered by looking at your staff skills, business size, budget
and planned processes. You can spend hundreds, or thousands, buying
software, or you may choose to use one of the multitude of free
programs.
Hosting your own Intranet
- an
Intranet is usually hosted on site within the physical network
structure, ie within the same building or business location. This may
vary for a company that needs to have remote acces to Intranet
resources by staff in off site locations. This makes sharing data ansd
resources especially simple, as long as the site is kept up to date.
